Best Ways to Mount Fish Finders on Canoes, Kayaks, and Boats

Mount Fish Finders on Canoes, Kayaks, and Boats

When discussing our line of fish finders with potential customers and dealers I am often asked: “What makes these FishTrax units better than what is currently out in the market today?” The answer is very simple--versatility.

This article is meant to help you understand the many ways this line of fish finders can be adapted to fit almost any application.

As a fisherman myself I want to help you understand all of this without the sales pitch. At HawkEye we are always out on the water, whether it be in a boat, on the shoreline, or in a kayak or canoe. Our line of fish finders is designed for boaters and fisherman by boaters and fisherman. We take the experiences we learn in the field and the feedback we get from our customers and use those experiences to design units that help people enjoy fishing.

The FishTrax line is comprised of 3 units.

  1. The FishTrax 1 is an icon-based entry level unit that is capable of marking fish, reading depth, and providing temperature.
  2. The FishTrax 1X is a dot matrix fishfinder that displays traditional sonar echoes as well as depth and temperature.
  3. The FishTrax 1C has a color display that shows raw sonar echoes, fish icons, a flasher for ice fishing, big depth temperature mode, and a ton of additional features/settings to give you the info you need.

All of these units put a huge amount of data in the palm of your hand.

Now, this is where the fun begins. We provided each of the fish finders with a ¼ 20 female adapter at the bottom of the housing. Big deal, huh? Yes, it is a big deal! This thread is what all of the action camera mounts on the market use! That means you can adapt this fish finder to almost any track mount system for kayaks, canoes, float tubes rod holders--you name it! Companies like RAM, Scotty, and YakAttack make so many different mounts for every application you could ever imagine.

Check out this Scotty Mount photo as an example.

This is our  FishTrax 1X rigged with a Scotty 135 Portable Mount, a No 140 Kayak Transducer Mount, and a No 440 Low Profile Track (they sell a 4”, 8” and a 12”). This combo makes it about as easy as it can get to mount and dismount the system from your vessel. The entire system simply slides onto the track when you hit the water making everything else on the market obsolete. Aside from Scotty there are many other brands selling systems like this that our fishfinders can be adapted to.

Not a kayak or canoe fisherman? Run a weekend bow rider or deck boat and don’t need a permanent fish finder cluttering up your helm? Simply attach the FishTrax to one of our  portable suction cup mounts to the helm along with the transom mount transducer bracket kit and you're set! We also sell a transom mount transducer if you would like to run it through the stringers and leave it attached to the boat for easy, clutter-free installation and use the supplied transducer off the dock, on the kayak or on the ice!

Speaking of ice fishing, the  FishTrax IceShack is the perfect solution when hitting the ice. Combine it with a suction cup mount, weighted display mount and you have protection from the sun, space for some tackle or accessories, and all in a bag that can be zipped up and carried off the ice when the day is done.

We also offer SUP, paddleboard mounts, lanyards, mounting disks and many more accessories on our website to make the FishTrax the solution for all your activities. I should also note these fish finders are totally waterproof and run off 4 AAA batteries so no lugging around a giant 12V battery or worrying if the fish finder takes a spill.

I hope this helps you get a better understanding of just how many applications these fish finders can be adapted to fit. Got a unique application you want to show off? Simply post it on our Facebook page and we will send you a 20 oz stainless steel, double-walled, vacuum sealed tumbler with a clear lid!
